For my script I decided to focus on the themes of the importance of a mother daughter relationship, as well as shine a light on Indigenous issues such as discrimination, and missing and murdered Indigenous women. My mother and I have a great relationship, however I would like to explore the psychological effects and insecurities that an unstable family relationship might have on both the mother and daughter. I have witnessed such relationships with friends, and I cannot imagine what it must feel like mentally. I wish to dig deep and explore the psychological aspects in order for it to help me create the characteristics of my characters.
Indigenous issues such as discrimination and MMIW are rarely ever spoken about in media outlets but it is an enormous epidemic. Indigenous women are of the highest-ranking missing and murdered women in Canada. I wish to spotlight these issues within my script in order to inform readers and hopefully spark conversation to try and eventually obtain the necessary media coverage. In addition, I want people to understand the lives we live, we are not mystical creatures who live in teepees. People need to see us as human beings who live just like everyone else. I wish to tell my story in a conventional manner while developing complex characters. I want Indigenous people to connect and relate to the characters because it is hard for us to see ourselves in non Native actors. Likewise, I will add witty mom jokes, some sarcasm, as well as arguments. I will be focusing on psychological thriller throughout the script without introducing any other genres.
In conclusion, my script with encapsulate the themes of the importance of mother daughter relationships, as well as Indigenous issues such as discrimination and MMIW. These themes will be executed through the psychological thriller genre in order to make people think beyond their beliefs, ethics, and shed a light on Indigenous issues around the world.
